Was Miley Cyrus really caught by the camera smiling soon after she lost best new artist to Tokio Hotel? If so, bravo to her because, if you saw the pre-show on the red carpet, it was kinda clear she really wanted to win. I think she said so only four dozen times.
How the heck did Miley lose, actually? The best new artist award is the one big prize chosen by fans on line. How is it possible that Tokio Hotel has more? Possible answer no. 1: Miley doesn't have as many fans as we thought. Possible answer no. 2: Voters took the word "artist" seriously when voting for the first time ever.
Now to the biggest question of the night so far: Was Christina Aguilera lip-synching?
It's posible that the US first learned about Tokio Hotel in 2008, but in Europe they have been superstars since 2005. They have millions of fans in europe, who are supporting them big time!
Miley Cyrus is a DC star, and therefore properbly most known in DC circles.
(and to the person who said 'Miley has tv, music and movies -- wtf?
Personally I think I would die if Tokio Hotel had a show like Hannah Montana (no offense, just not their style)..
Music? Hallo, music award? paints the picture 'kay? And movies? Why should bans/singers cares about movies? Tokio Hotel has maked dvd's about their tour and music life and for fans that's gold between your hands ^^
But it's cool that Miley's taking it so well losing to Tokio Hotel. Very Cool!

Tokio Hotel is the best band in the world!!! I mean Miley Cyrus is a total fraud. The producers just change her voice when she sings that's why there is an echo. Anyway Tokio Hotel kicks a**!!!

Miley wasn't happy when the Worlds' favorite German band won! I saw her, she turned back as was suprised! Haha! Even though she played on the radio, that STILL didn't save her tween-pop butt, whereas Tokio Hotel has only performed Monsoon live on the radio! so, HA! And i saw miley trying to suck up to Tom Kaulitz by saying, 'Tom, your hot'

psht. Most of Miley's fans ar eall younger, you barely hear of anyone in 8th grad eor higher that actually likes her and yeah Tokio Hotel has fans ALL over the world and sold out that huuuge venue in parc de princes, will miley ever do that? im betting like my life that she won't but i could be wrong buut u never know plus tokio hotel deserved to win they've worked so hard and comin from where they did they totally deserved that award

Tokio Hotel is in best new artist because they just started breaking out in the US and maybe people actualy did take the workd "artist" seriously and not vote for the pretty pop princess ( not trying to be rude i like miley cyrus as well) aslo mileys fans are mostly young girls where TH fans are all ages and dedicated to them.

miley is a much bigger star than tokyo hotel is (miley has tv, music, movies) but she's just now getting known outside the disney circle, whereas tokyo hotel has been around for a while (why are in the new artist category?)

I read this comment on the different page and I thing it´s true - Miley has fans in America but Tokio Hotel has fans all over the world ... I´m from Europe and VMA started at 2am in my country and even if it was school night, tons of fans was on line watching the show and voting ... and well it´s pretty obvious that Tokio Hotel are simply better ;-)

I think the reason Miley lost is because half her fans are young kids, and you have to register for an account to vote, and no 6 year old is going to do that, let alone even be on the computer haha

Yes, Miley was smiling and I believe it was because she was happy for Tokio Hotel. Which I'm glad for--it actually made me like Miley, seeing that she didn't get mad or cry (I mean, seriously, you should have seen Usher when he lost). And I'm happy for the boys, too. They really deserved it, especially since they constantly stressed that they DIDN'T. =D

No, I think the bigger question is why did Christena choose those clothes that are certainly not suited for someone of her size. She makes Britney from last year look like one hot mama. And that make-up. Ick. I love Christena, but what was she THINKING? I'm so surprised that she is not being ripped to shreds. Honestly, I think this performance was way worse than Britney's from last year when you factor in the wardrobe, the make-up, the awful hunched-over dancing, and the fact that she wasn't even singing. I will say, however, that while she was still the genie - and before she came out of the bottle - I was holding my breath I was so impressed. But it didn't last. Not a good night for CHristena. She's better than this.

Yes, Christina was lip synching. At the same time, however, she did belt out the notes like she knows how. Why is it that Mr. O'Neil has to point that out, yet every other artist, Britney in particular, lip synchs all the time and is not called out on it. Christina has already proven to us that she has a voice and knows how to use it. She is simply showing us another facet of her remarkable talent. So get over it.
The biggest question you have is was Christina lip synching? No, honey the biggest question here is why award Britney the Moon Man for video of the year when we all know it was not the video of the year. There is your biggest question of the night.

and it wasn't a huge surprise tokio hotel won, they probably have the biggest online fan-base right now, maybe not in the U.S. yet but definitely in Europe

Maybe it's because a large portion of Miley's fans are still young teens and pre teens who normally don't watch MTV and since MTV required you to register and tell your age, many kids couldn't vote. Also you don't know how many votes came in at the last minute and on the east coast a lot of kids were probally in bed as it's a school night. I do think she wanted ot win, but I know she she knew deep in her heart that she wasn't going to so she was able to be happly. What happen to the JB's and all the awards they got nomimated for.Aren't they bigger that Miley now according to the tabloids?

Christina.. Chritsina, Christina. Girfriend always belted it out live-even when she was sick she still rocked out.
Yes, unfortunately it's true- Christina lip-synched for the majority of the song. HOWEVER, she sang at the very very last part. Do you know how I know? I've been watching Christina since she came out on the scene, and I know what she looks like when she sings. The very last moment, she was actually using her facial and neck muscles to let out that powerful and soulful voice she most noteabley has, but for 5 seconds. And it's really hurting my feelings, because I can't quite understand why my idol would do such a thing.. maybe she was trying to focus on her dance routine? It's very mindboggling, indeed. On the flipside, her performance was good... No matter, I've got love for my girl no matter what route she goes with her performances, we know how girlfriend can really perform when she wants to.
