Hollywood Film Festival announces crafts honorees
The Hollywood Film Festival announced the recipients of its crafts awards, which will be bestowed at the gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Oct. 27. Below are the honorees and how they've fared at Oscars past.
HOLLYWOOD COMPOSER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Major kudos focus is on Danny Elfman across the derby this year. He wrote the score to 2008 best-pic contender "Milk" and has never won an Oscar despite nominations for "Men in Black," "Good Will Hunting" and "Big Fish." He didn't even nab bids for many of his other classics like various Tim Burton flicks "Beetle Juice," "Batman," "Edward Scissorhands" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
HOLLYWOOD CINEMATOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Mandy Walker has never been nominated for an Oscar, but receives special notice for lensing Baz Luhrmann's "Australia."
HOLLYWOOD EDITOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
Daniel P. Hanley and Mike Hill shared an Oscar for their edit work on "Apollo 13" and now are contenders for "Frost/Nixon."
HOLLYWOOD PRODUCTION DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Production designer/art director Sarah Greenwood was nominated for "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice" and now competes for "The Soloist."
HOLLYWOOD COSTUME DESIGNER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Deborah Hopper has never been nominated for an Oscar despite designing costumes for Clint Eastwood best-picture nominees "Letters From Iwo Jima" and "Mystic River" plus best-pic champ "Million Dollar Baby." This year she outfitted the cast of Eastwood's "Changeling."
