Now that nine music giants have been nominated to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, only five will actually be chosen in January, then installed on April 4 in Cleveland, Ohio. To find out more details about the ceremony, including how to purchase tickets, CLICK HERE.

Metallica

The anointed nine: Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Metallica, Run-DMC, the Stooges, War, Bobby Womack. Some have been nominated in the past, including Chic and Wanda Jackson. The Stooges have been nommed seven times in the past.

Below are some comments and predix from the posters in our forums. To see more, CLICK HERE.

Jose: "Metallica for sure. Jeff Beck will also be inducted. War is a surprise for me."

Guru: "My predictions: Jeff Beck, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Metallica, Run-DMC. I hope The Stooges get in finally but I would not be surprised if they get snubbed again."

MrTalented: "My Predictions: Metallica, War, Bobby Womack, Run DMC -- I don't know who #5 will be. I really hope Janet Jackson makes the ballot next year."

Clementine: "Locks: Metallica, Run-DMC. Safe Bets: WAR, Stooges (maybe performing for Madonna at this years event will boost their chances). 5th Spot: Chic? Nile Rodgers seems respected enough to get them in."

Professor Chaos: "I'm going to be really disappointed if War doesn't make it in. 'Don't Let No One Get You Down' is just such an amazing song. One of the best ever written (and their big singles are pretty awesome too)."

HollywoodStar: "I'm thinking Metallica, Run DMC, WAR, Stooges, and Chic make it in."

T White: "Metallica, Run DMC, Jeff Beck are probably sure bets. Maybe Chic will get in since they were nominated last year too."

A. DeWitt: "My predictions: Jeff Beck, Chic, Metallica, The Stooges, War."

WOW! WAR is finally being nominated for the induction! I’m a true believer that its way past due. Not only did WAR have a sound but one couldn’t fit them into a specific mold, R&B.. no…, Rock & Roll .. Sometimes, Jazz.. Maybe in a couple of songs…., Salsa.. I hear the Latin influence …

I’m also pleased that the originals are mentioned by name in the nomination; Lee Oscar, Harold Brown, Howard Scott and BB Dickerson. I think 2 are dead. I finally found them under the name of Lowrider band. Rumor has it that they lost the rights to the name WAR in a lawsuit. I grew up on their music and was so happy to find the originals after 10 years. Should an inductee be multi-talented?

Another thing that drives me insane is that when I say WAR is my favorite Band.. Live act… every one assumes they sang that song by Edwin Starr. “WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?” HECK NO.. THAT’S NOT WAR!
WAR had songs like Low Rider, Cisco Kid, The World Is a Ghetto, Slippin into Darkness…. Etc.. They are one of the groups that have their music sampled the most by MANY, MANY different artists, from ROCK, PUNK, R&B etc… They have had their music used in commercials, movie soundtracks & sitcoms. Does Madonna?

They deserve something! They lost their source of income cause they can’t use their name … Give them their CREDIT for being artist… every single one of them…
Go to U Tube and see for yourself from way back in time when they performed with Eric Burdon. Check out the jam session with Jimi Hendrix!
I read their bio and found out that they started in Compton, CA in Harold Brown’s Mom’s garage, only to loose their name to some production company in LA.

I haven’t seen the band touring under the name WAR but I heard they sound like a cover band. A couple of the Morning Shows blasted those guys, said that they looked young and don’t sound anything like the Lowrider band.. I guess cause its NOT WAR!

The Hall of Fame continues to be a "critics pets" deal - if it's going to be as scattershot as letting a disco act or a funk act in - not complaining, mind you, as I think War and Chic are way overdue for this honor, - then why not some of the more commercial rock acts whose catalogues still get extensive airplay on classic rock radio? If you think the Doobie Brothers or Chicago are too lightweight (they let the Four Seasons and the Dave Clark Five in, right?), then what about Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler or Cheap Trick? Whether critics like these bands or not, rock fans of the last 30-40 years continue to request these acts' music and continue to attend their concerts. What exactly, in terms of quality, is the "dividing line"?

if u think run dmc should make it into the hall of fame by making one song with Areosmith and Rush hasn't even been nominated something is seriously wrong here..

Jeff Beck is the most talented of the nominees. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Brian May, David Gilmour, Tom Scholz and Joe Satriani have all stated that Jeff Beck's the greatest guitarist. He's also an animal loving vegetarian and a hot rod builder.

My prediction:

SHOO-INS:
Metallica
Run-DMC

DESERVE TO BE:
Stooges
Jeff Beck
Chic (let's face it. Queen ripped the Chic sound for "Another One Bites The Dust")

Run DMC being nominated for induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame is a banner moment for hip hop music. They are the true godfathers who brought this genre of music into the mainstream and legitimized this musical format in the eyes of the masses. Much like Grandmaster Flash did in 2002, Run DMC will surely pave the way for more hip hop artists to be recognized by this great institution.
