Kate Winslet's worst Oscar nightmare?

November 24, 2008 | 10:23 am

TRUE OR FALSE? Three months from now, at age 33, Kate Winslet could become the biggest loser among actresses in the history of the Academy Awards. To see the answer, CLICK HERE!

ANSWER: True. If Kate Winslet's Oscar campaigns go according to plan, she'll be nominated in the lead race for "Revolutionary Road" (left photo) and in supporting for "The Reader" (right). If she loses both races, that will bring her career tally to seven snubs. That would surpass the current record (six) held jointly by Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter.

Kate's past Oscar defeats:

LEAD ACTRESS
"Little Children" (2006) (Helen Mirren won for "The Queen")
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004) (Hilary Swank won for "Million Dollar Baby")
"Titanic" (1997) (Helen Hunt won for "As Good As It Gets")

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
"Iris" (2001) (Jennifer Connelly won for "A Beautiful Mind")
"Sense and Sensibility" (1995) (Mira Sorvino won for "Mighty Aphrodite")

Not to worry. If the category fraud (being nominated for supporting actress in The Reader, a leading role) flies by members, I can see Kate winning support and Meryl winning lead. Same thing happened when Meryl won lead in 82 beating Jessica Lange, who also had two nominations and got the supporting recognition.

People! The Academy are individual voters who are just voting one at a time in the privacy of their own homes. In their haste to make sure Ms.W is on the ballot, where they put her, #1 or #2, as Tom said, and for which film is crucial and is all simply a matter of numbers. People aren't getting together as TEAMS & voting.

I cannot imagine an Academy member NOT wanting to give Kate Winslet an Oscar - and a leading one at that.

Kate Winslet is great. She has already achieved greatness. Some of those who beat her in recent years are forgotten by now and losing an Academy Award is not a tragedy, remember this. For me it is worse seeing mediocre ones winning an Oscar, for example: Paltrow, Roberts, Jolie, Sorvino, Loretta Young, Grace Kelly. They are not really talented actresses, they are just lucky ones with a lot of good friends to help them. On the other hand we have a good company for Miss Winslet if she becomes a loser: Rosalind Russell, Judy Garland, Greta Garbo, Barbara Stanwyck, Edith Evans, Deborah Kerr, Thelma Ritter. All of them great women, great personalities, real talented women who will be remembered forever, for always!

Kate Winslet is the best
actress of this generation. She brings such humanity to each role she portrays. I hope the Academy gives her the recoginiton she deserves by nominating her in the lead actress and supporting actress categories and possibly winning either one or both.

Here is something for you Tom. Is there a Winslet curse!?

What happened to those people whom beat out Winslet?

Sorvino and Hunt arn't as famous as they once were. Connelly is having a hard time getting and picking decent roles. What has Swank done in the last 4 years? And well, Helen Mirren just dug a grave for herself with those rape comments...
