Golden Globes eligibility list: Yes, 'Iron Man' is in the drama race

December 3, 2008 |  9:37 am

Following up on my post Tuesday that revealed the Golden Globes' category classifications, I received a number of questions about lingering issues. Here are both the Qs and the A's.

Q: So "Iron Man" is in the drama category?
A: Yes.

Q: Why isn't "WALL-E" on the list of films competing for comedy/musical picture?
A: Because it's eligible in the Globes' separate race for best animated feature.

Q: Penelope Cruz is lead for "Elegy" and supporting for "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"?
A: Yes.

Q: Beyonce is supporting for "Cadillac Records"?
A: Yes.

Q: Is Tom Wilkinson lead or supporting for "Rocknrolla"?
A: Supporting.

Q: "Mad Men" has which ladies in lead and supporting (possible changes due to story lines)?
A: Leads are January Jones and Elisabeth Moss. Supporting is Christina Hendricks.

Q: Shohreh Agdashloo is lead or supporting for "House of Saddam" on HBO?
A: Supporting.

Q: Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard are both leads for "Sybil"?
A: Blanchard is lead, Lange is supporting.

Oops. I forgot to say "Franco lead for Pineapple Express" and "Clooney & McDormand lead for Burn After Reading". Frankly though, I don't think you would need such clarification!

I am thrilled to see Iron Man be at least considered for a Golden Globe for best drama, I doubt it will win, as it is a comic based film.
However, that said, Iron Man was a very good film and Robert Downey,Jr. was incredible as Tony Stark.
I guess as they say, it's nice to just be nominated. Still a win would be incredible.

I wish Moss had went supporting, I don't think they will take her in lead over Jones this year. Last year she was a lead but this season she slipped to supporting for some reason. I suppose Betty was just more compelling on her own like Don. This season there were two separate worlds explored and they revolved around Don & Betty...not Peggy.

Tom, I have another significant batch of questions, based on confusions I've heard about recently:

1) Some say that James Franco will compete as lead in Comedy/Musical Actor. Is this true?

(If so, whether or not he gets a Milk nom, seems like he could get that nod defo. BARE category.)

2) I believe Frances McDormand and George Clooney will go lead for Comedy/Musical Actress+Actor. My friend disagrees, even though he's Australian and hasn't seen it. Is my assumption correct?

(Each of the 2 feel like shoo-ins to me. And McDormand also has Miss Pettigrew.)

I'll come back if I think of anymore, but those 2 are my main quandaries at the moment =P.

Any news about which 38 mini-series or telefilms are in and which are out? I'm especially curious about a lot of British productions, as those tend to show up strongly. And is Secret Diary of a Call Girl out or is it just entered as a drama?
