Michael Musto on Oscars: 'Kate Winslet is the new Deborah Kerr, let's face it!'

As every Oscarologist knows, this year poor Kate Winslet could not only tie Deborah Kerr's and Thelma Ritter's record as the biggest losing actress, but surpass it — that is, if she gets her wish and she's nominated in lead for "Revolutionary Road" and in supporting for "The Reader." (And she loses both.) Does Village Voice wag Michael Musto think she can prevail?

Well, let's put it this way: He agrees with me that she may get only one nomination — in lead for "The Reader," not "Revolutionary Road" — and he's betting (for now) on Meryl Streep ("Doubt") to claim that top trophy. Check out what Michael thinks about the best-actor derby and, separately, why he thinks this year's Oscars will be the gayest affair ever.

IT will be Meryl's turn at the Oscar's. It will also be Kate Winslet's Best Supporting Actress turn at the Oscars for "The Reader". I rest my case.

It would be a shame to see Kate Winslet lose a sixth and seventh time, respectively. However, these guys forgot to mention that Geraldine Page was also a seven-time loser before she went on to win the eighth time she was nominated for "The Trip to Bountiful" in 1985. So Winslet may be the newest actress to receive seven nominations without a win, but she's not the first -- Geraldine Page was in 1978, and stayed that way until 1985.

Xavi, keep in mind that rotten tomatoes is pretty much useless. ANYONE that has a blog and deems themselves a "critic" posts on that; therefore, not giving it an accurate portrayal of what the critics think. If you look at the TOP CRITICS section, 11 out of 15 gave the film a positive review. THAT is what really counts. I say Kate is in for Best Actress, and could actually end up taking it.

I think would be interesting, but again, kate Winslet would be Oscarless.

I truly believe she only gets one Oscar Nomination for "The Reader" in Supporting Actress. If that's true, so maybe she'll have better chances for winning. Because Revolutionary Road is going to nowhere. 65% in RT, lack of critics love.

But she's still young. She's only 33 years old. So she's still chance for winning
