Gold Derby nuggets: Meet the secret Oscars marketers | 'Nixon' back on campaign trail | Amy Poehler and J. Lo join Golden Globes presenters

Lisa Taback pushing "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and Cynthia Swartz hyping "Revolutionary Road" are heavyweight Oscar campaigners who step out from behind the shadows in this Washington Post article by Dan Kois. It's amazing he got them to talk! We Oscar bloggers work with these folks daily, but they usually freak out when you ask to quote them.

• Speaking of Oscar campaigners, Tony Angellotti is now in full battle mode just days before nomination ballots get mailed to academy members. New York Times Carpetbagger David Carr seems flabbergasted by the blitzkrieg campaign that Tony, Universal PR chief Michael Moses and studio marketers have launched for their Ron Howard flick. "In the past two weeks, Daily Variety (had) five covers going to 'Frost/Nixon,' " Carr notes. "And just in case potential voters weren’t getting the message, there were four covers during abut the same period on the Hollywood Reporter."

Universal is famous for doing this. Many Oscarologists like me believe that's how the studio beat the odds and nabbed a best-picture nom for "Ray" in 2004. Not only did Universal blitz the trades, but it ran gads of full-page ads in the L.A. Times. Hefty ad promotion is also how it kept Ron Howard's previous Oscar movie, "A Beautiful Mind," afloat while it was under attack for sugar-coating the life story of its lead character. "Frost/Nixon" doesn't need this severe push right now — not in the best-picture race anyway. It'll also be nominated for director, lead actor and screenplay at the very least. READ MORE

• And speaking of Oscar campaigns, you can see these ads in the FYC gallery at AwardsDaily.com.

• The Golden Globes just announced more presenters for the Jan. 11 gala: Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler and Seth Rogen. Previously announced: Simon Baker, Drew Barrymore and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Truth

• Over at the Feinberg Files, you can see a video of our blogger Scott Feinberg dishing with "Nothing But the Truth" stars Kate Beckinsale and Alan Alda. CLICK HERE. Earlier this week Scott featured podcast chats with SAG nominees Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor"), Dev Patel ("Slumdog Millionaire") and Melissa Leo ("Frozen River"). Obviously, Scott is aiming to make his Envelope blog more interactive than Gold Derby. Aha! Is this cyber-war?

• On topic of SAG nominees, did you read Pete Hammond 's reax at his Envelope blog Notes on a Season? Among the excellent points he makes: Pete reminds other Oscarologists not to write off Clint Eastwood just because he got snubbed by the guild. That's what happened a few years ago when Clint rallied with a bid for lead actor in "Million Dollar Baby." READ MORE

• Over at InContention.com, Gerard Kennedy sizes up the best-song category now that we know what the 49 finalists are. Citing Bruce Springsteen's title tune of "The Wrestler," for example, Kennedy asserts that "his ends credits track seems poised to bring him his third Oscar nomination. In addition to the song perfectly fitting the film, it is also simply a great tune." READ MORE

Haha Tom, no matter what interactive material I come up with, fear not, for NOTHING will ever top your annual Christmas-time assessment of the Oscar landscape that you record from under a pillow in your bedroom. Pure genuis :)
