Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to be among no-show nominees at Oscars luncheon
Oscars nominees get together for the annual academy luncheon Monday and 15 of the 20 acting nominees will be among the almost 120 attendees.
However, missing from the festivities at the Beverly Hilton Hotel will be: Oscars' lead actor contender Brad Pitt, who is busy promoting "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" overseas; his gal pal, lead actress contender Angelina Jolie ("Changeling"), who has gone along for the ride; New York-based Meryl Streep, who just equalled Katharine Hepburn's record dozen lead-actress nods with this bid for "Doubt" (she has a record tally of 15 Oscars noms overall — she was also MIA from this luncheon two years ago when nomm'd for "The Devil Wears Prada"); and Streep's co-star, supporting actor contender Philip Seymour Hoffman.
All five directing nominees — Danny Boyle, Stephen Daldry, David Fincher, Ron Howard and Gus Van Sant — are scheduled to attend, as are many of the Academy Award nominees in the other 18 races. Look for the historic group photo here Monday afternoon.

It's a sad day when the best of HOllywood, Brangelina, doesn't attend the Oscars, and both should win because they are talented, passionate, and great actors.

Yes, there is a bit of silliness to the headline and how he refers to those who are doing their jobs. I guess Susan Sarandon is Tim Robbins "gal pal" too.
But of course, you have to remember that he also contributes to In Touch Weekly, therefore, he seems to not be able to get out of his tabloid hang-ups, which is his issue and rather unprofessional at best and tacky at worst.

I have to agree with the poster about how you referred to Angelina Jolie. The negative press this talented actress, humanitarian and devoted mother receives from the media is unfair and disgusting. What on earth is the matter with you??
Brad Pitt is doing his job and Angelina is supporting her PARTNER. She is NOT Brad Pitt's 'gal-pal' ..nor is she 'along for the ride' Both have stated over and over again that they support each other as most couples in a committed relationship do...and both have stated they do their best to keep their family together while meeting their career obligations. For heaven's sake...get over yourselves. I am sure it is possible to report celebrity 'news' without being mean-spirited. It is not uncommon for actors and actresses to miss the awards shows..even when nominated. There is such a thing as priority..and these two have done an excellent job of putting family first . and in this instance Brad Pitt is promoting his movie..which is his job..and Angelina is choosing to be there with the entire family for him.

James, you're ahead of me on realizing #5 would be Ledger. I had decided it was Penn until I read your post -- at which point I went "Doh!!!" =)

Is Philip Seymour Hoffman just gonna skip all the awards ceremonies because he doesn't want to be there if heath wins? This is just in bad taste since heath was there everytime Hoffman every award possible when they were both nominated together.

Excuse me, you wrote Pitt's 'gal pal,' whose 'along for the ride.' How about saying something like Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie are both overseas with their family promoting their respective films. I mean, God, what in hell's name have you got against them?? Or do you think their 6 kids are 'along for the ride,' with their 'pal' Brad also?? Please. Just stop.

I was reading this with my boyfriend, and after you said only 15 of 20, and we saw you listed only 4 names, he asked "Who's the fifth?!" At first, I sat confused...before I reminded myself that Heath Ledger has passed on =(. It's morbidly amusing that it didn't click right away; but it's also a powerful thing that he still feels alive to us all.
