I truly hope that Mariska Hargitay wins for her portrayal of Detective Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. She has done such a great job this season and her acting is amazing. I did enjoy True Blood but in my opinion, Anna doesn't deserve the award. Sally Field is an amazing actress but this year wasn't her year. Mariska, out of all of the actress' she is up against, deserves this award the most. I hope she can take it home.

Let me clarify my position.
Harold and Kumar, yes great satire for the Globes and Oscar. ( Laurel and Hardy "The Music Box" (1932).)
Zack and M, great comedy for the Globes (Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story)
Tropic ( Platoon in black face) great for the Globes and of course the Oscars ( Birth of a Nation).
Street Kings ( the opening alone makes it a great drama ala Rocky with a better performance and ending with F. Whitaker)
Baby Mama ( The Odd Couple with breast) and of course Zohan ( political comedy ) I loved this quote “ It is also brazenly self-confident in its refusal to pander to the imagined sensitivity of its audience.” Yes, all are Oscar and Globe ready, and they didn’t need 100 million in self promotion to obtain Oscar credibility or a handicap with a supposed A list of character actors.

I agree about The Duchess and The Boy In Striped Pyjamas. I am so bored with superhero movies.

writerdjb, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but Harold and Kumar, Zac and Miri, Zohan? Really? Oscar worthy? Really? There were some overlooked movies, Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Duchess being at least 2 of them.

Like Big Nikki ( Finke) and little Nikki ( Kidman) I might skip this show ( at least the red carpet walk).
First it’s the limited number ( and their membership requirements)of journalists who nominate these films. It’s not like those journalists who nominate our sport heroes to the hall of fame. Secondly, the HFPA doesn’t recognize real talent or production values in the majority of films that were “great.” The nominees once again appear as another marketing blitz by the studios, which in turn leads to another boring Oscar presentation. Benjamin B was a snore festival, with good lighting. I head someone say it was Forrest Gump part two.
Australia was an epic film that Leo McCarty and Allan Dwain would love, it just didn’t make enough money.
Their were a few great films, Dark Knight, Harold and Kumar, Zack and Miri, Tropic, Street Kings, Baby Mama, Zohan, Burn After Reading, W, Miracle. But only a few highly marketed films are noticed by the HFPA.
I saw Appaloosa yesterday, that great film ignored by everybody was the real dramatic equivalent of the Dark Knight. It should have been nominated for best director, actor, actress and supporting. Shame on you world press. Third, for so much and fluff and stuff the HFPA is less then eighty people voting for the Globes. Is it unbiased with “ free tickets”, why not send a DVD sampler. . Lastly my opinion on those who make us watch the Globes, what the H*** is a reminder list, recognized standing, and a county club vote on HFPA membership. Despite all of the above I will watch the Globes ( hypocrite), and little Nicky if you show up, save me a seat.
