I saw "The Reader" and thought Kate was terrific but I've been in love with her since "Titanic" so I guess I'm biased. I thought Meryl chewed the scenery in "Doubt". I think both are due but Kate has never won so I think this is her year.

Meryl should win! Really. When she gave the 2nd Oscar, I wasn't born. I wish I can see the moment she gives the 3rd one...and why not in this year? She totally deserve it!

I have no idea why people aren't talking more about Anne Hathaway. I think there's a strong possibility that most voters will be torn between Meryl and Kate and the vote will split allowing Hathaway to get more votes than either of them.

Don't forget...

2002 - Jack Nicholson vs. Daniel Day-Lewis... "and the Oscar goes to Adrien Brody for The Pianist"

I believe that Meryl Streep gave the best performance this year, Kate's was great, but lacked a certain something, she just went for the sympathy vote, which annoyed me a little. Streep kept me captivated, and I understood where her character was acting from!

MERYL.
CRUZ.

PENN.
LEDGER.

I would die if Kate wont win. She is so much better than meryl in the reader compared to doubt. And she is also even better than RR than Doubt...2 amazing performances...and they will just snub her? AGAIN? No way!!! We will boycott OSCARS if they will not finally reward her this year. KATE DESERVES THIS!

That would be so cool if Jenkins and Leo win, it would be a stamp on their overlooked supporting performances and those two terrific lead performances in "The Visitor" and "Frozen River".

Meryl is great but i don't care that she's the biggest loser when it comes to oscars. She's still getting work and she pulls it off wonderfully. But such actors like Jenkins or Leo should get more lead roles(and recognition because they are experienced enough to be humble and stay humble when it comes to acting) and maybe oscars will help them.

Anne Hathaway deserves Best Actress! She gave the best performance in this catagory.

i think streep should win this yr, among the 5, she is the best, not for the whole career, but the doubt itself, bet she will get her third award

Kate Winslet should win Best Actress...the performance was outstanding compared to that of Streep and if anyone is 2nd, it should be Anne Hathaway. It is curious that Benjamin Button was nominated for anything...I found the film to be among the worst and most overrated in the last 10 years. Leonardo Dicaprio or Clint Eastwood should have been nominated in place of Brad Pitt and the film should have been left off entirely. Vicky Christina Barcelona, Gran Torino, Rachel Getting Married, Revolutionary Road and the four other Best Picture nominees were much better.

This year I;m not predicting who's gonna win. I'm predicting who's gonna be a surprise winner, just like last year, my jaw drop twice and stunned when marion cotillard and tilda swinton pulled off best actress over the veterans....

for surprise:

best pic: benjamin button
best dir: david fincher
actor: langella
actress: winslet (though she might or might not)
supp. actress: adams
supp. actor: (save this one, ledger is locked i'm sure)

WINSLET IS THE BEST OF THEM ALL HANDS DOWN!! KATE ROCKS!!

Steep by far had the most believable performance. I truly saw her as a nun and was so in awe of how she made that character come alive on screen..when you're this good you should get an award! Not that she needs one but lets face it it's way over due.To have a block buster movie like "Mamma Mia" and a performance like the one in "Doubt" at her age.. the way women are cast aside in Hollywood it's a true testament to her brilliant talent!

meryl streep is amazing in Doubt.......I hope to see her win gold once again!!

eh, please tell me why it has to be winslet?

clearly she isn’t the best among the nominees every single time.
come on, you really think the ridiculous reader is worth any prize?????

Go MERYL!!!!!
Go Viola!!!
Go Milk!!!!
Go Sean!!

I like these predictions, though it will be interesting to see the Best Actress announced . I didn't think Meryl was that strong in "Doubt" however, I thought Kate was supporting in "The Reader " . Though Kate is long overdue as well as Streep ( even though she has two statuettes)

MERYL STREEP!!! The Reader being nominated for best picture is a big joke

Winslet is not overdued, and just because it's her best work doesn't mean she deserves to win.

MERYL STREEP FOR THE WIN!!! This woman gave the most astounding performance among the five. Those who believe otherwise simply don't understand the connection between her character and her milieu. For someone who was battling good vs. evil, tradition vs. modernism, feminism vs. patriarchy ---she played the same to perfection, as large as the war she was waging. Meryl Streep was mesmerizing, and proves that indeed, she is the best all around, bar none!

streep is the best

I cannot believe Benjamin Button has not been given any award yet in any category. It was a great film.

Why is The Dark Knight included in Best Picture? Were these predictions made before the nominations were announced?

I hope Streep wins. She rekindled many memories with her Sister A. portrayal to those that lived that school life in that era. She is tops this year in performance.

While Kate Winslet's performance was good, AMPAS did her no favors putting her in Lead Actress category. If she was in Supporting, correct, it's hers. Lead Actress? Meryl Streep.
