Can Michael Jackson resurrect his career with 'Thriller' musical on Broadway?
Michael Jackson is hoping to revive his sagging fortunes with a Broadway musical based on his smash hit single "Thriller." He is partnering with the respected Nederlander Organization to create a show that expands the landmark 1983 video into a full-fledged stage extravaganza.
The story of the $500,000, 14-minute video, directed by John Landis, was of a boy (Jackson) and girl enjoying a date till he turns into a singing, dancing werewolf. While this new tuner will also use songs from both the "Thriller" album and "Off the Wall," no further details — such as the creative team and production dates — were announced.
It is easy to forget now, but back in the early 1980s, Michael Jackson was at the top of the charts. He was on his way to becoming the most successful musician of his generation. The "Thriller" album spawned hit after hit, sold in the tens of millions and won Michael Jackson an unprecedented eight Grammy Awards. The last of these came in 1985 for the home video "The Making of Thriller."
However, the road to success on Broadway is littered with flops based on hit song catalogs. Just three seasons ago, the success of "Jersey Boys" — a musical biography told through the songs of the Four Seasons that swept the 2006 Tony Awards — spawned a trio of flops: "All Shook Up" (using the music of Elvis Presley), "Good Vibrations" (The Beach Boys), and "Imagine" (John Lennon). Even acclaimed director-choreographer Twyla Tharp, who scored a hit with "Movin' Out," a dance musical set to the songs of Billy Joel that took the Tony Award in 2003, flopped with her 2006 follow-up "The Times They Are A-Changin'" based on the music of Bob Dylan.

Yes he can make a BIG comeback, reason behind Thriller's success was that he did something different from others and that clicked - this time Michael has to do something different again. Love you Michael.

Twyla Tharp's musical is called MOVIN' OUT, not MOVIN' ON.

The zombie dances, not the werewolf. ;-)
The werewolf story is the film within a film that MJ takes Ola Ray to see while on the date.
Yeah, I'm a product of the eighties.
