Oscars experts square off: Who'll win best actress?

February 3, 2009 | 10:52 pm

Most Oscars gurus place Kate Winslet ("The Reader") out front to win best actress at the Oscars, but are they underestimating Meryl Streep ("Doubt")? Streep just won the Screen Actors Guild Award, which usually foretells the winner at the Academy Awards . And what about Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married"), who tied Streep for the Critics Choice Award and claimed the top prize from the National Board of Review solo.

Here members of The Envelope's Buzzmeter panel of Oscars experts clash over who'll win best actress T.L. Stanley (Gold Rush, Hollywood Reporter), Greg Ellwood (HitFix.com), Pete Hammond (Notes on a Season, The Envelope), Scott Feinberg (Feinberg Files, The Envelope) and me.

Why do these videos right after the nominations and wait so long to post?

I hope MERYL STREEEEEEP wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope Kate wins and another factor is that with just one nomination voters cannot give her a supporting oscar so all Kate love goes to the leading category. A huge help for her win.
