February 14, 2009 | 10:00 am

Can you spot the three films featured below that won Oscars for best director, writer and lead actor or actress, but nonetheless failed to win best picture> The other movie also lost best picture, but didn't pull off those three top, compensatory victories. See the answer here!

ANSWER: "The Pianist" (2002), "7th Heaven" (1928-29) and "The Informer" (1935) all got gypped out of a best-picture award despite  being voted the best directed, written and acted film of the year. "The Pianist" lost to "Chicago," "7th Heaven" to "Wings" and "The Informer" to "Mutiny on the Bounty." "Cabaret" (1972) lost best picture to "The Godfather" after winning best director (Bob Fosse) and actress (Liza Minnelli), but it didn't win the adapted screenplay prize. That also went to "The Godfather."
