Daytime Emmy nominations snub 'Young and the Restless,' 'General Hospital' and 'The View'!
Here's proof that that anything can happen in the cruel realm of soap-opera intrigue. The list of Daytime Emmy nominations announced today includes lots of shocking omissions, including TV's highest-rated soap — "The Young and the Restless" — from the lineup for best drama series and "The View" from the programs competing for best talk show.
Not only is the seven-time winner of best drama series missing in action, but so is the only show that's won the award more times (10): "General Hospital." Instead, the rivals for best soaper are "All My Children," "The Bold and The Beautiful" and "Days of Our Lives"
Also noticeably absent from the top race is TV longest-running serial, "Guiding Light," just canceled by CBS. A farewell salute might've helped it to move to another network (Lifetime is rumored to be interested.) The show's two-time winner of best supporting actress, Gina Tognoni, was snubbed too, as well as its lead star, Kim Zimmer. The latter slight is quite ironic. A few years ago Zimmer announced that she'd withdraw her name from competition if she won best actress for a fourth time. She triumphed again in 2006 but flip-flipped, classic diva style, reenterinig the race and she got nommed. Now, curiously, she's forced out.
Other notable snubs: Katherine Kelly Lang ("The Bold and the Beautiful"), Judith Chapman ("Young and the Restless"), Elizabeth Hubbard ("As the World Turns"), Susan Lucci ("All My Children"), Robert S. Woods ("One Life to Live"), Peter Bergman ("The Young and the Restless") and Darnell Williams ("All My Children").
However, the list includes lots of new blood like Peter Reckell, who's finally recognized for his long-running portrayal of Bo on "Days of Our Lives." Also noteworthy is that Martha Stewart is back in the running. Her show is up for best lifestyle program. Concurrent with her legal woes a few years ago, she withdrew from competition, citing financial concerns. (Fees to enter shows in Emmy competition can reach hundreds of dollars per category.)
A partial list of nominees was announced this morning on NBC's "Today Show." The rest of the lineup will be unveiled around 3:30 p.m. PDT today during a ceremony at the Hearst Tower in New York. The list will be published at the academy's website. Winners will be announced Aug. 30 during a ceremony telecast by the CW. Meantime, join the discussion of Daytime Emmys in The Envelope's forums.

I am stunned to the core that Y&R is not nominated for Best Drama. For it to be nominated 25 years straight and not being nominated this year is very shocking!!!!! I said I was going to boycott but not; have to support B&B and hope it wins Best Drama. The storyline with Storm ending his life to save his sister was very powerful!!!!!

I am extremely disappointed that Crystal Chappell from Guiding Light was not nominated. It only takes one look at her performances to KNOW that she is one of the top actresses in the business. What a terrible decision to have cancelled that show.

I love Y&R but it was hardly snubbed this year... it had a very weak season.

I'm surprised that there aren't four Best Daytime Dramas nominated? "The Young & The Restless" (despite it being as listless this last year as most of the soaps were, except for "Guiding Light" which seemed to improve over the last year) should still be nominated because of it's general overall directing and acting and even writing being much better than the other shows. "Guiding Light" not being nominated is also a bit of a shock. There should have been five nominees in the Best Daytime Drama. I also can't see why Crystal Chappell (Olivia from GL) was not nominated in the Best Actress category -- but that could be only because of the huge uptick in Olivia's storyline didn't really begin until this year -- although Chappell is golden know matter what and it still is a snub.

Hot damn! Congratulations to Debbi Morgan for breaking through the Daytime Emmy glass ceiling! She's the first African American actress to EVER be nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. I could care less about any snubs this year simply because this milestone is long overdue. And she's joined a small group of daytime vets who've been nominated in all three acting categories (younger, supporting, and lead) as did her "AMC" co-star Vincent Irizarry. All of her Daytime Emmy nominations (3) and wins (1) have been for playing Angie, no less! Here's hoping that Angela Bassett ("ER") and Jill Scott ("The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency") both land lead drama series actress nods at the Primetime Emmys and make some history there as well.

The Guiding Light women being ignored was quite shocking. Not only Gina and Kim, which you mentioned, but Crystal Chappell who has blown me away with her work as Olivia Spencer in the last two years. She is hands down the best actress in daytime.
Lifetime would be lucky to pick up this show as it is just hitting its stride.
And here's another thought - The daytime emmy's will air on a network that doesn't even have its own daytime programming (the CW is all syndicated). Very interesting.

I have been watching Y&R since my adolesence.
This year I threatened to stop watching because I was simply bored!
Perhaps the Cane/Philip story line will mark the return of the "award winning" Y&R.

The View Co-hosts were nominated for Best Talk Show Host. They have just been omitted from the above listing.

I am completely surprised that Crystal Chappell was also snubbed. Her portrayal of Olivia Spencer on Guiding Light is absolute brilliance. IMO she is The Best Actress on television. Let's hope the Emmy nominations get it right next year and that Guiding Light finds a new home as well.

I am surprised about "The View". With its current slate of hosts, it has never been better.

Wasn't the ladies of The View nominated for Best Talk Show host??? I thought I heard their names this morning.

I occasionally watch the Bold and the Beautiful but disagree with the nom. Some of the actors are just horrible and the same Brooke/Ridge/ Taylor storline has been so overplayed it is nauseating. How can there be only three nominations? Aren't there supposeto be at least five?

Judith Chapman is a star of The Young and The Restless.

We knew Lucci would be snubbed, she wasn't on the ballot! I totally agree on the other snubs, though.
