Scorecard: Tonys pundits predict the nominees
With Tony Awards nominations looming — they'll be unveiled early Tuesday morning — here's a breakdown of predictions sent to us by these pundits: Melissa Bernardo (contributor, Entertainment Weekly), Matt Windman (AMNewYork), Martin Denton (NYTheatre.com), Brian Lipton (TheaterMania.com), Chris Moore (Broadway.tv), Paul Sheehan (contributor, The Envelope.com), David Sheward (Back Stage) and Wayman Wong (New York Daily News). Oh, yeah, mine are here too. Keep checking back! More are coming soon!
Note: There are only four nominees in the categories for best play and musical (original and revival) and director. The performance races accommodate five slots . . . maybe because actors have a greater ego need for more spotlight?

Maybe there are 5 slots for actors because there are more of them than there are of plays or musicals. And while only 4 nominees are accomodated in those play/musical categories, if you count revivals then they really get 8 nominations for plays, and 8 for musicals. And implying actors have egos is like stating that journalists make stupid remarks in print. Both so true they needn't be pointed out.
