'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Lost' top TV Saturn Awards
"Battlestar Galactica" won its third Saturn Award as best cable/syndicated TV series as well as first-time acting honors for stars Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell.
"Lost" took its fourth Saturn as best network series but was blanked in the acting races despite 10 nods. Adrian Pasdar ("Heroes") and Jennifer Carpenter ("Dexter") were the supporting acting Saturn winners while Jimmy Smits took the inaugural guest award for "Dexter."
The Saturn Awards began handing out TV kudos in 1989, and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was the first honoree. Two decades later the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and action/adventure/thriller are all well-represented on television.
"Battlestar Galactica" won the first two of its series bids but was beaten last year by "Dexter" on its second try.
"Lost" had taken the top network series award for three of its first four seasons. "Heroes" edged it out two years ago for its red-hot debut season. Seven of the "Lost" regulars were nominated this year — leads Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly and supporting players Henry Ian Cusick, Michael Emerson, Josh Holloway, Yunjin Kim and Elizabeth Mitchell. Fox has two earlier Saturn wins while Emerson and Mitchell were supporting champs last year. This marks the fifth consecutive loss for Lilly.
The guest acting category was new to this year's Saturn Awards. However, unlike the Emmy Awards, the Saturns did not distinguish between and actors and actresses. Three of the "Lost" stable of guest stars — Alan Dale, Kevin Durand and Sonya Walger — and two from "Heroes" — Kristen Bell and Robert Forster — lost to Jimmy Smits from "Dexter."
Members of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror decided the winners. Begun in 1972 to honor often overlooked films, the organization has expanded its reach in recent years, adding TV awards in 1989 and DVD ones in 2003. While an abbreviated list of TV winners is below, visit the official website for the full list of winners in movies, TV and DVD.

Lost and BG are probably the best show on TV. I am saddened for Lilly's 5th lost, I mean she just a great episode this season. But her competition is so good. Mcdonnel, Paquin, even Torv is good. The final season is coming! But this hiatus is killing me!

Lost and Battlestar Galactica are among the best series on TV in the last 10 years, not just SF but in general. Great writing, great acting, great music, great production values. Those are shows that make people think, contain well-thought out mythology, complex, dynamic and morally ambiguous characters, and highlight moral and political issues (BSG) or philosophical dilemmas (Lost) in an intelligent way.
I find it hard that any adult could find them bad while preferring a cheesy Star Wars ripoff with one-dimensional character and silly plots that the original BSG was. To quote Harlan Ellison and his words to Ronald D. Moore, "You took one of the worst SF shows of all time and turned it into one of the best."

@ Robert: its apparent that you have no taste whatsoever. While I cannot speak for Lost, BSG is by far one of if not the best written & acted show on television. To suggest that the original and LIS from back in the day are better shows either shows your age [read old fart] or bitterness [OMG starbucks a girl, frak that!] or both. Good thing most intelligent people with the ability to think outside the box disagree with you. Grab your rabbit ear tv and crawl back in your hole! I'm embarrassed I had to read your drivel...

Lost and battlestar galactica were the worst shows I have ever had the misfortune to see.
Babylon 5 was better than those. Lost in space fron the 70's was better than those shows. The first battlestar galactica was better than the ones up for saturn awards now. guess theres no acounting for taste. If I owned those shows I would have trashed them for I would be too embarassed to say I created junk like that and called it entertainment.
