Can Mariah Carey finally win top Grammy Awards by dissing Eminem?
Mariah Carey goes on the offensive in her new single – "Obsessed" – taking on Eminem among others. The track is the first off of her album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" due out Aug. 25. That release date means this 12th studio album by Mariah Carey just makes the new Aug. 31 cut-off for Grammy Awards eligibility.
Though Mariah has racked up 34 Grammy nominations (among female artists, second only to Aretha Franklin), she has managed only five wins. And none of those victories came in the top categories of album, record and song of the year.
The singer has always prided herself on her songwriting abilities. In "Obsessed," she wrote in a rap directed to Eminem, "Why are you so obsessed with me/ Boy I wanna know/ Lying that you're sexing me/ When everybody knows/ It's clear that you're upset with me."
While Eminem has said that he and Mariah were one-time lovers, she repeatedly has denied his claim. On his new album "Relapse," Eminem references Carey and her new husband, Nick Cannon, in a less-than-flattering light on the track "Bagpipes From Baghdad."
Over the years, Eminem has won nine Grammys but lost both of his bids for album and record of the year. As a songwriter, he has contended for song of the year only once. And he did not land a best new artist nod when he burst onto the music scene.
Mariah Carey was named best new artist in 1990 for her self-titled debut album. And she won best pop vocal, female, that year. Then, though her follow-up albums all went platinum, there was a Grammy Awards drought until her smash hit "The Emancipation of Mimi."
Mariah went into the 2005 Grammys with eight nominations but left with only three wins, in the R&B genre – contemporary album, song ("We Belong Together") and female vocal. The singer-songwriter lost the big prizes of album, record and song of the year to U2 and Green Day.
And her 2008 follow-up – the critically acclaimed, chart-topping "E=MC2" – did not have the right formula to win over Grammy voters. She was snubbed for that album as a whole and her historic No. 1 single, "Touch My Body," was shockingly shut out as well. She picked up just a nod for her gospel collaboration on "I Understand."
Black Eyed Peas could be Grammy starters with 'The E.N.D.'

Wow. Tom O Neil and his wife seem to be swinging with Mariah and Nick, judging by the content of this so called 'article'.
While Eminem is no saint himself, this article has prejudice written all over it. mariah is one fine singer and Eminem one fine rapper. But everyone knows that Eminem was robbed in 2001 Grammys when he didn't win for Marshall Mathers LP and instead the Grammy went to U2. And just to see how much this freelancer who passes himself as a reporter knows, Eminem's first single debuted in late 1998! LOL. And his first album dropped in February 1999. And you say 2000? By 2000 Tommy Boy, Eminem had relased two albums and made appreances on Dre's 2001. You were probably watching Nick Cannon with starry eyes back then as you seem to have no clue what you are writing about.

I don't see Mariah gaining any ground with Grammy Voters this year. The song is so so. Frankly i think Grammy voters are tired of Carey, Beyonce, Kanya West, Spears, and even Clarkson. Overall nominating the same people every year. And Beyonce already has close to 20 Grammys. I think this years Grammy voters will nominate new and old artists in the major categories. Beyonce, U2, Springstein and yes West all have too MANY Gammys already. I think this will be with the come back of Whitney Houston, Houston will get nominations in the top spots (with some wins)her CD will be released Sept 1,2009 (I'm hearing good reviews of it) her single "Didn't know my own Strength " (I am hearing will get a few nods including record of the year, all the other slots will go to new Artists.
