Chandra Wilson and Jim Parsons to announce Emmy nominees July 16
Three-time Emmy bridesmaid Chandra Wilson ("Grey's Anatomy") and "Big Bang Theory" breakout star Jim Parsons will be announcing this year's Emmy nominees on July 16. Joining them at the podium to read off the top contenders for the 61st annual Emmy Awards will be academy chairman John Shaffner.
Chandra Wilson has been nominated in the supporting category for her role on the ABC medical drama for the last three consecutive years. In 2006, she lost to Blythe Danner ("Huff"), in 2007 to her co-star Katherine Heigl and last year to Oscar winner Dianne Wiest ("In Treatment").
Jim Parsons did not pick up a nod last year for the first season of the CBS Monday night hit sitcom. However, in the run up to nominations, he sat down for a hilarious chat with Gold Derby. Take a listen to that lively discussion as Parsons cheerfully admits, "The more I find out about how the process works the more confused I get. If somebody doesn't win who I think should win, I don't even know who to blame anymore. It could be their own fault" — because of what race they entered or due to the sample episode they chose to give to judges.
While Wilson and Parsons might like to think of their selection as a positive sign of their potential to be nominated, they should be mindful of what happened to "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack back in 2002. He was tapped to read out the nominees along with "ER" star Laura Innes. Having won the lead actor in a comedy series Emmy the previous year on his second consecutive nod, McCormack was no doubt expecting to hear his name among the nominees that morning. When it wasn't, he quipped: "It's just as well. You know how hard it is to get a sitter?" (That would be the year perennial nominee Ray Romano won his only acting Emmy for "Everybody Loves Raymond.")

although last year when Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth announced the nominees, they didn't read their own names, but were informed on air after the big announcement that they had indeed been nominated.
