Webcam: Emmy 'Wipeout' for John Henson?
Comedian John Henson isn't joking. As co-host of "Wipeout," he thinks the wacky new ABC show featuring contestants enduring a rigorous, goofy, slimy, often humiliating and painful obstacle course to try to win $50,000 deserves a place in the top Emmy contest for best reality/competition show. Yeah, right next to the usual nominees that showcase contestants striving for excellence, sometimes even artistry: "American Idol," "Dancing With the Stars," "Project Runway," "Top Chef" and the show that has never lost this race since the category was created six years ago, "The Amazing Race"! Why not, eh?
Well, even if it doesn't have a prayer of winning an Emmy, maybe it can be nominated? The fact that "Wipeout" is on the official Emmy ballot along with 24 other shows in that category gave me the excuse to catch up with my ole chum, who often interviewed me on his own show, "Watch This," on the TV Guide Channel. Now, it's my turn to put John in the hot seat. Will the result be a . . . wipeout?
Please pardon a slight glitch in this video. There's an echo for a brief moment or two as John talks, but then it's gone.
