'Generation Kill,' House of Saddam,' 'Little Dorrit' lead Emmy mini race

Emmys miniseries

Both of our Emmy sages — forum moderators Chris "Boomer" Beachum and Robert "Rob L" Licuria (AwardsHeaven.net) — acknowledge that there's no suspense in the race for best miniseries. They agree on the three programs most likely to be nominated this Thursday.

BEST MINISERIES
"Generation Kill" – Boomer, Rob
"House of Saddam" – Boomer, Rob
"Little Dorrit" – Boomer, Rob

ROB'S COMMENTARY: Could this be the most boring and uncompetitive category ever in the history of the Emmy Awards? Probably not, but it sure is close. With only seven contenders in this field, and with HBO's "The Pacific" about a 99% chance of winning next year, I would say it might be about time that this category be amalgamated with the TV movie category.

That being said, I have seen only two of the contenders here, and both would be worthy winners ("Gen Kill" and "Saddam"). "Little Dorrit," however, is going to be a huge threat if it is nominated, with old stuffy British PBS minis usually proving to be irresistible to voters.

BOOMER'S COMMENTARY: Not much to offer as commentary on this category. There are only three strong miniseries candidates, and the remaining four have very little chance of getting nominated.

Don't call it old and stuffy you old windbag. At least see it first before you start saying idiotic things.

What a pity 'Cranford' couldn't have been delayed a year, instead of being trampled by the dull 'John Adams'. It was deserving of many more awards than it managed to win last year.

Don't be so hard on "Little Dorrit"! Just saw it on DVD and it's brilliant...
