Emmy nominations predictions: Battle over best TV drama actor
OK, maybe I'm a bit too harsh on our poor forums moderator Robert "Rob L" Licuria for picking three-time winner James Spader to reap his fifth Emmy nomination as maverick attorney Alan Shore in the race for best drama actor. But "Boston Legal" is off the air and therefore, let's hope, off the Emmy radar.
Enough of this Spader juggernaut! Even Spader is mystified by his repeat victories and sounded most ungrateful when stating so the last time he won, harrumphing in 2007, "I have no idea who votes for these things or even how you secure a ballot." (Memo to Spader: Why not bother to find out after repeatedly sweeping the TV industry's highest honor? And why confess such cluelessness with such a dismissive air?)
Still, Rob's got a good point. Spader could return, but — come on! — voters won't pick the over-indulged B-list star of a canceled show over past champ Kiefer Sutherland, star of past winner of best drama series, "24," which just returned triumphant after being benched for a year during the writers' strike.
Or will they? That's what Rob is predicting and I come out swinging to challenge him. And Rob swings back! Watch this heated clash of Emmy pundits, also starring forums moderator Chris "Boomer" Beachum.

A friend sent me a message saying that a female reporter for the actual ENVELOPE that comes with the daily paper wrote and said MOST actors don't know how it is done. Perhaps it is just not James Spader who is confused by the process.

Kiefer Sutherland is on the A-List now. And if you say Spader has more range, you haven't seen many of Sutherland's movies.

Jan, you're delusional. BL and Spader have been pretty much shut out by other awards shows. Spader has not deserved all his Emmy acclaim. It's almost infuriating.

I agree with Jan...Spader did not sound ungrateful, I too thought he sounded humble and charming. I will agree with you that he was totally taken by surprise that he won in 2007, but in no way did he sound ungrateful. And what's this name calling... "overindulged B-list actor"? Kiefer could be called the same thing (actually I like Kiefer and would not say this about him anymore than I would about Spader) plus he headbutts people and serves jail time. They are both excellent actors, although I do think Spader has more range than does Kiefer, but that is for another discussion. It really sounds as though you have a personal grudge against Mr. Spader and are using this forum to air it!

James Spader did not sound ungrateful, he sounded humble and charming. Get off his back, he deserved all his Emmy's and truly deserves this last one as the iconic Alan Shore. Boston Legal was the best show on TV and is truly missed by those of us who appreciated its humor and insight
