'The Lovely Bones': Peter Jackson's next Oscars pony?

August 12, 2009 |  8:30 am

Peter Jackson proved to be emperor of the Oscars when "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" tied "Ben-Hur's" and "Titanic's" record for most wins, going undefeated in 11 races at the 2003 derby. Next, the ambitious director takes on an adaptation of the bestselling novel about a girl (Saoirse Ronan, Oscar nominee for "Atonement") who's raped and murdered, then soars to heaven where she observes how her family and friends struggle for understanding, closure and justice.
