Inside track: Golden Globes' race for best comedy/musical actress

December 8, 2009 |  9:23 am

Meryl Streep It's complicated Julie and Juilia

Oscar rules prohibit stars from being nominated twice in one category, but Meryl Streep will probably compete against herself at the Globes. Don't assume she'll split her votes and lose. When Tim Robbins reaped rival bids for best comedy/musical actor of 1992 for "The Player" and "Bob Roberts," he won for "The Player."

BEST COMEDY/MUSICAL ACTRESS
FRONT-RUNNERS
Sandra Bullock, "The Proposal"
Marion Cotillard, "Nine"
Zoey Deschanel, "(500) Days of Summer"
Katherine Heigl, “The Ugly Truth”
Meryl Streep, "It's Complicated"
Meryl Streep, "Julie & Julia"

POSSIBLE
Julia Roberts, "Duplicity"
Ellen Page, "Whip It"

"The Ugly Truth" as a Golden Globe nominee? Sorry but that is not going to happen because films that mostly received negative reviews do not get nominated for many prestigious awards but get nominated for Razzies. Pia Zadora won Best New Actress for the then-unreleased "Butterfly" in early 1982 and later won two Razzies as both Worst Actress and Worst New Star in early 1983.

Katherine Heigl, “The Ugly Truth” -- this is best actress . awful movie - the woman can't act her way out of a paperbag

What about Michelle Pfeiffer for Cheri?

Tom, do you think Ellen Page or Whip It has any chances at the Globes? It would be cool for the Globes to go often the beaten path like they did last year with Tom Cruise and James Franco and nominate Page or Whip It for something. So far, Whip It has been nod-less this season, except for really minor awards like the WIN awards. It's a shame that Whip It is appearing to be a film that will be neglected this season. It had great reviews, but its box office numbers really ruined any chances it had to become a strong contender for awards.

I think Renee Zellweger for My One and Only is also a strong contender, the globes kind of love her...and if they're nominating Bradley cooper,i think they'd nominate her too....nothing grabs more attention/press than couples who claim not to be couples on the red carpet
