Poor Bill Maher has Emmy fatigue

Bill maher news

Rarely does Emmy's biggest loser mention his rotten awards luck, but Bill Maher lets loose in the current issue of Vanity Fair (the one with Grace Kelly on the cover).

Maher answers the "Proust Questionnaire" on the back page. In response to the question, "Which words or phrases do you most overuse?" he replies, "It's an honor just to be nominated."

OK, so that's not a specific reference to Emmys, but it's obvioius that the notoriously grouchy TV wag is grousing about the elusiveness of TV's top award. Maher may have a celebrated sense of humor, but he's not laughing off his record 22 Emmy defeats.

Two years ago I ambushed Maher at the Toronto Film Festival to ask him what he thought of being Emmy's biggest loser. He called me a nasty name that we had to edit out of the video because the L.A. Times is family-friendly media. But then he also gave the question a thoughtful answer. See our exchange here.
