Prediction: 'Glee' star Jane Lynch will hit high note at the Emmys

May 19, 2010 |  5:45 am

Our Emmy gurus Robert "Rob L" Licuria (Awards Heaven) and Chris "Boomer" Beachum not only agree that "Glee" star Jane Lynch is ahead to win best supporting actress in a comedy series but that her closest rivals are Kristen Wiig ("Saturday Night Live") and Jane Krakowski ("30 Rock"). Also see their predictions for these races: best drama series, lead drama actor, best drama actress, best supporting drama actor, best supporting drama actress, best comedy series, best comedy actor, best comedy actress, best supporting comedy actor. Nominations will be unveiled on July 8, awards bestowed on Aug. 29.

Jane Lynch Glee news

1. Jane Lynch ("Glee")
2. Kristen Wiig ("Saturday Night Live")
3. Jane Krakowski (30 Rock")
4. Vanessa Williams ("Ugly Betty")
5. Jenna Fischer ("The Office")
6. Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family")
Alternates -- Elizabeth Perkins ("Weeds"), Julie Bowen ("Modern Family")
BOOMER'S COMMENTARY: This seems to be the most difficult category to predict for nominations especially with last year's winner Kristin Chenoweth and "SNL" star Amy Poehler no longer eligible. Adding to the confusion, potential nominees Cheryl Hines ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") and Jane Adams ("Hung") strangely opted to try their luck in the very crowded lead actress race.
The standout here is no doubt Jane Lynch, a beloved comedy veteran of many films and TV shows, who finally has a chance to show such range on "Glee." She is easily the front-runner to win the category. Kristen Wiig remains the big star on "SNL" and will be back again to contend for an Emmy. Jane Krakowski has been given some great material this year on her show, as has Jenna Fischer with both wedding and baby storylines. Vanessa Williams most likely continues her string of nominations for the final season of "Ugly Betty". I am torn on the sixth slot and feel it might be a race between two members of the "Modern Family" (Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen) or another nomination for Elizabeth Perkins from "Weeds".

ROB'S COMMENTARY: I am going out on a bit of a limb here in thinking that Jane Lynch is the front-runner in this category. She is the scene stealer and a comedy vet and is due some Emmy love.

Kristen Wiig should return, along with Krakowski and Perkins. And the likes of Vanessa Williams (in her swansong effort) and Emmy vet Holland Taylor could be back for more.

We still aren't sure where Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family) will submit. If here, then they stand to benefit most from the very “up-in-the-air” nature of this category.
