Fox Searchlight's next Oscar pony: 'Never Let Me Go'

July 26, 2010 |  3:05 pm
Does Fox Searchlight have another contender on its hands? The studio with the winning Oscar ways — it released 2006’s “Little Miss Sunshine” (four key Oscar nominations, two wins); 2007’s “Juno” (four key noms, one win);  2008’s “Slumdog Millionaire” (10 nominations, eight wins) and 2009’s “Crazy Heart” (three nominations, two wins) — now is positioning “Never Let Me Go” for award season consideration.

Here’s a first look at the one-sheet. But don’t let the appearance of a frolicking good time at the shore fool you. The film, set for a Sept. 15 release,  is an adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro novel about English schoolchildren who grow up knowing they are special but perhaps don’t fully understand the future that awaits them. “Never Let Me Go,” an atmospheric examination of morality, humanity, sacrifice and duty, stars Oscar nominees Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley, as well as the next-generation Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield.
