My fearless, peerless, 100% perfect Emmy Award predictions

August 25, 2010 |  6:12 pm

Emmy Q

My boldest Emmy predictions: "The Amazing Race" and "The Daily Show" juggernauts will finally end. After winning best reality/competition show and best variety series for seven years in a row, they will lose to "American Idol" and "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien." The reason: "Idol" and "Tonight Show" picked shrewd episodes to give to Emmy judges. "Idol" entered the two-hour season finale that included the heart-felt bye-bye to Simon Cowell, and Conan O'Brien entered his sad farewell to the "Tonight Show."

DRAMA SERIES: "Mad Men"
COMEDY SERIES: "Modern Family"
VARIETY SERIES: "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien"

If only.

epic fail

Dexter is so deserving of an Emmy after this past season! So, in addition, I believe Michael C. Hall deserves an Emmy to call his own!!

If 'Glee' wins a writing award they should just go ahead and cancel the Emmys.

If Modern Family will not win the major award I hope it wins Writing and/or Directing

I really hope Tom is wrong that American Idol would win over The Amazing Race

I agree with most of your choice except Colfer. I think Stonestreet should take the award this year as he is the breakout star in comedy this season. In fact the cast from Modern Family is great and should have won the SAG and not Glee. Glee is a good show similar to Fame but with singers only its not really comedy.

Jon Hamm is more than deserving this year. And I'm rooting for Elisabeth Moss to take supporting actress for drama. "Mad Men:" will clean up, again -- because it deserves to.

I agree with all the predictions except supporting comedy actor (I go for Stonestreet) and the TV Movie supporting actors (I hope Straighairn and O'hara get it).
My full predictions list in my blog Imitation of Life at:

I pretty much agree with every prediction except for a few things, most prominently the defeat of "The Daily Show", I think it's taking the statue again and not without good reason.

I hear some bitching about the Chris Colfer prediction? Even though I thought he was pretty funny on the episode he submitted (the one where Kurt goes all butch), it's clear that he's not as funny as the Modern Family guys or NPH. But he is the BEST ACTOR in that category, and the nomination is for Best Supporting Actor in Comedy, not Most Comic Actor. So I'm with you, Tom, I think he's taking the Emmy and very deservingly so.
Though, I wont be dissapointed as long as whoever takes that trophy isn't Jon Cyrer.

Laruen, Chris Colfer can't help what category he gets submitted in. He can't help that Glee is a comedy series and not a dramatic one. It's best Supporting Actor IN a Comedy, not Best Comedic Actor in a Comedy. He can't help if his best performances are dramatic and if his acting skills are up to par, then why shouldn't he be nominated and possibly win just because his performances are dramatic?

Uhm, so...yeah.

The only thing that matters is what is submitted to the judges for consideration.

I've said it before, Tom, and I'll say it again: American Idol has a snowball's chance in hell of winning after the season they just had (and the resultant turmoil they're going through now.) Possibly the dumbest, least founded prediction I've ever seen you make.

As for the Daily Show juggernaut, I agree they're losing, but I think Colbert's Iraq submission tape is the far-and-away favorite. Those shows are impossible to dislike and impossible to ignore. They nailed an incredibly difficult challenge, and will be rewarded.

COMEDY SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Jane Lynch, "Glee"

I could probably get behind every prediction except one. I'd hardly call Cofer's performance in "Laryngitis" (the ep he submitted) comedy worthy. What was funny about him in that ep? Nothing! If he wins it will be a shame that he won over actual comedy performances. I'm really surprised that people haven't mentioned that.

If Falco wins it will be because she's Edie Falco and NO OTHER REASON.

Breaking Bad is going to swoop in and take the big one. Cranston will 3-peat by a nose over Hall, and Aaron Paul will take one home as well.

The rightful show to dethrone the Daily Show's multiple wins would be The Colbert Report. I think the Iraq episode outweighs Conan's Final Show. In my opinion, Conan's nomination in this category is tribute enough and makes the intended statement from Emmy voters. I am a fan of all three- Stewart, O'Brien, and Colbert and just feel that this year, Colbert is more deserving.

Conan would have won either way, a true comedy genius.

Sorry, but I think you were too heavy on the Glee there. I don't think it's gonna win writing, 'cause this one is going to Modern Family, neither Chris Colfer will win, I would say more likely one of the Modern Family guys (probably Eric Stonestreet), or Neil Patrick Harris.

Also, the lead actor for comedy, I think this one's going to Alec Baldwin or Jim Parson. The rest, I agree (although I see too little drama to have an opinion).

I think Modern Family will (hopefully) win Best Writing and Supp Actor for Stonestreet. You give so many wins to Glee and not Series and that does not make much sense. I think they will not like it that much (or wishful thinking). It's the Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty of this year.

Modern Family will win writing and supporting actor for either Stonestreet or Burrell.

Too bad none of the supporting actresses in Nurse Jackie are nominated. Eve Best, Anna Deavere Smith and Merritt Wever are all great on that show.
